Right Action

Is there a single truth/ one right way of action in the way I engage in the world? If that is so, it would be such a boring thing. In which case, I can write a book that defines all the right action, and direct all people to only follow that book – then all is well, will be well. But all is not well. I am constantly bombarded by challenges.

Often I find the same action that was wrong (creating dysfunctionality) in some context, being Right (a functional response) in some other context. Telling my 10 year old son what is Right could be functional; but telling my spouse what is right action could create misery :-); and taking one such experience and keeping quiet when my spouse is struggling can spell greater doom :-))).

Then, Right action in a given moment is determined by what the context is. The context is created by the people/ beings who are there in the Stage / Plot of the scene – both the visible/ manifest; and also those not in the scene, but who have a stake in the plot – when I am talking to my team member, my boss may not be present physically; but to think that she/ he is not there – you know what the consequences would be!!!)

I and others associated with the scene, are constantly creating the context through our unique tendencies (svabhAvA), which by default create a tension inherently. In which case, how do I engage in right action? Is there a right action at all? Whichever way I act, it creates some challenge or the other for myself and to others in the scene. What is this game all about?

svAdhyAya, developing my capacity to observe these tensions and how my svabhAvA is part of this tension, is a key step in this Game. All elements of the yOga practice is directed towards this.
